AKKA Futsal Teams Representing!
January 28, 2009 - For the first time we have to put together three AKKA Futsal teams at the U10 boys, U12 girls,
and U18 girls ages. The youngest two teams are competing in the Princeton Futsal League and all three teams competed in the 2009 NJ Futsal State Cup with U18ʼs moving on to Regionals. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the teams from the players, to the parents, and the coaches. They are a very skilled group of young players who just love the game and they are already beginning to create a buzz just based on their stylish individual and team play in their first season of official futsal play.
They join our AKKA Menʼs Futsal team (formerly Jersey United) who have been successfully competing for the last 3 years in State, Regional and National tournaments, most recently winning the 09 PA State Cup, 09 NJ Runners-up, 08 NJ State Cup champs, and finishing 5th in the country at Nationals. Thereʼs no turning back now and we anticipate doubling or tripling the number of AKKA Futsal teams next year!
Soccer and Disney World! What Could Be Better!
January 20, 2009- This past January the “Kick It 3v3 World Championships” were held at Disneyʼs Wide World of
Sports Complex. Teams from across the nation competed in state and regional qualifiers to earn an invitation to this prestigous soccer event.
AKKA Soccer was asked to help prepare a group of six young female players from Medford NJ to compete in the U11 age bracket. Twice per week after Thanksgiving up until two days before they left, the girls would train as long as there wasnʼt snow on the ground. Each session they worked on their individual skills, their ideas with and without the ball, and just improving their all- around ability as soccer players. Week after week we saw improvement in their ball control, running at players, passing, receiving, finishing, decision making on both sides of the ball and in turn their confidence continued to increase.
Although they didnʼt win the tournament they never felt outmatched in ability and competed in the true AKKA spirit by embracing each game with a positive attitude to play attacking soccer and have lots of fun in doing so! We pass on our congratulations to Lexi, Liz, Sarah, Julia, Amanda, and Brittany, along with Coach Mike and Coach Jeff for representing yourselves and AKKA so well!
